Concrete Pump Operator

A CONCRETE PUMP OPERATOR is a skilled machine operator typically working on construction job sites. As opposed to a crane operator, who may go to one job site for six months or a year, a pump operator typically goes to one or even two different job sites per day. Duties include controlling the operation of the pump and the output of concrete by directing the boom or laying line when using a line pump. The Concrete Pump Operator will also drive the machine to and from the job site and make sure the pump is ready for the next job.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure concrete pumps are maintained according to DOR regulations (brakes, fluid levels, etc.).
- Fill water tanks before each project and ensure all valves are properly secured and shut.
- Drive the pump in a safe and conscientious manner to the job site and back to the yard.
- Evaluate site conditions and work with contractors or supervisors to park/set up the truck.
- Place concrete in desired locations, placing special focus on provided instructions.
- Load and unload concrete pump attachments and ensure that all associated tools are used in a safe manner.
- Clean concrete pumps at the end of the day to ensure they remain in good working condition, minimizing breakdowns and downtimes.
- Follow all safety measures before, during, and after each project.
- Know the pump well enough to recognize problems and perform light maintenance.
- Represent the Company through efficient work and courteous service.
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to meet DOT requirements for hearing and seeing.
- Must be able to verbally communicate with others.
- Good manual dexterity to climb on and around the pump in all weather conditions.
- Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds to an overhead position.
- Must be able to push and pull up to 50 pounds.
- Must have the balance and dexterity to maneuver around a construction site and must enjoy working outdoors in all weather conditions.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in heavy equipment operation related to construction, excavation, etc.
- Basic mechanical knowledge and familiarity with construction site practices.
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) is a must.
- Commitment to safety protocols and teamwork in a construction environment.
